General Student's Committe – Allgemeiner Studierendenausschuss (AStA)
The Students’ Union exists to help you and to ensure your views are effectively represented to the University. The Students’ Union looks at all aspects of the University and how they can be improved. The General Student's Committe (AStA) is the executive board of the constituted student body at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). It represents about 25.000 students.
The AStA is composed of the Chair and different units (Finance Unit, Department of Culture, ...), each responsible for a particular subject area.
- We are ordinary students who are elected by the student parliament for one year to lead the Students' Union.
- We work for you and are accountable to the student parliament.
- We work full-time and live on campus.
- We are responsible for the strategic direction of the Union
Our tasks are e.g. the political representation of the students, to provide a lot of advice and service, the coordination of the different groups and commitees of the students' union, to organize the "Unifest" and much more. We are supported by many volunteers and work groups.
The AStA officers are happy to help you. Feel free to pay us a visit during the Consultation Hours (Sprechzeit) of the person you would like to talk to. Naturally it's possible to contact the department via email and arrange a meeting at another time.
Our meetings take place at wednesday at 2:00 pm. The meeting is public and everyone is allowed to participate. If you want to discuss a distinct topic, please wite an email: email@example.com.
With the work programm (Arbeitsprogramm) the student parliament dicedes the general tasks of the AStA during its time of office.
